The Pet Food Project

Due to the uncertain economic times caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are initiating a project to provide temporary assistance with pet food to pet caregivers in Hunterdon County. Some families are facing difficult decisions about feeding their pets; they may even be forced to consider surrendering their pets because they can no longer afford to feed them. Every day that these families can feed their pets is one more day those pets stay at home with the people who love them!

You can help neighbors who are struggling to feed their pets by donating to our Buy A Bag Fund. We will be purchasing all products from local small businesses. It’s a win-win!

Here’s how your money will be spent, depending upon the need in our community:

$5 = 5 cans of cat food or 2 cans of dog food
$10 = 1 bag of kitty litter
$15 = 1 small bag of cat or dog food
$20 = 1 case of canned cat or dog food
$35 = 1 medium bag of cat or dog food
$50 = 1 large bag of cat or dog food

We need additional help in the following areas:

  • Contacting pet food companies
  • Developing relationships with local businesses
  • Organizing and running pet food drives
  • Transporting pet food to distribution sites
